Football Jabber NFL Mock Draft 1.0

The first NFL Mock Draft for Football Jabber is up…

Football Jabber Mock Draft 1.0

by TJ Ford

*Order subject to change based on playoff finish.

#1- Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
The Fins will be forced to address their defensive line as they ranked dead last in rushing yards allowed. Dorsey has been the game-changing type of tackle this year and will instantly make an impact on the Miami line.

#2- Jake Long, OT, Michigan
This year’s edition of the Rams showed everyone how easily a great offense can crumble without good offensive lineman. Orlando Pace is getting long in the tooth and St. Louis would be wise to pick up a new franchise tackle.

#3- Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
The Falcons will be desperate to rebuild their shattered franchise after a horrible year. I don’t believe that Ryan is worth a 1.03-1.05 type of pick but the Falcons need a quarterback badly and this year’s QB class doesn’t offer the second round type of talent (Kolb, Stanton, Beck etc.) that last year’s class had. After Ryan, Brohm and Woodson, Atlanta may have to wait until the 4th round to get proper value in a remaining QB to warrant a pick. And with many teams, including the Ravens and Bears, heavily in the market for a signal caller as well, the Falcons won’t gamble with their pick, and will take the best QB available, Matt Ryan.

#4- Chris Long, DE, Virginia
I can honestly see the Raiders trading up to land Glenn Dorsey to shore up their own rush defense woes with Chris Long becoming a cornerstone for a new Miami 3-4 but for now, Oakland takes Long to improve a terrible pass rush and a defense that has taken a big step back from last year. The Raiders believe in Mike Bush and do not select McFadden.

#5- Sam Baker, OT, USC
The Chiefs need to protect their young quarterback better than their poor effort last year. The Chiefs gave up over 50 sacks last year and will need to give Brodie Croyle more time in order for them to be successful. Kansas City makes the first reach ala Levi Brown of last year to get Baker at 1.05.

# 6- Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
The Jets should go defensive line here as the Jets were not the best defensive team last year but I believe that Mangini likes the defensive personnel that he has currently. I look for the Jets to trade Johnathan Vilma use the pick coming back to get defense later in the draft. McFadden proves too much for Mangini to pass up and the RBBC waters in New York get murkier.

#7 (fr/49?ers) Patriots – Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB, Ohio State
The perfect Patriots linebacker. Gholston can stand up, is dynamite for pass rush and can tackle well. Belicheck drafts Gholston to get some young blood into his severely aging LB corps. Don’t count out the trade possibility also, the Pats always manage to do something.

#8- Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
The Ravens are another team desperate for a quarterback. McNair and Boller are not the answer and Brian Billick’s firing will likely mean that the pick here will be a new franchise QB. Woodson’s physical abilities will be necessary to buy time for a weak receiving corps to get open.

#9- James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State
Laurinaitis gives Cincinnati the playmaker that they need to help out a badly depleted linebacker unit. His mean streak and leadership will make him the cornerstone of a rebuilt Bengal defense.

#10- Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami
The Saints are forced to upgrade a terrible secondary that was repeated torched throughout the season. It’s too early to cut bait with Jason David despite his poor play at CB last year so the Saints select Kenny Phillips to replace Josh Bullocks. Phillips’ good coverage skills will allow Roman Harper to play more in the box.

Time has come/Moving to hosted blog

My free blog days are done. Well, for sports anyway. I went ahead and hosted my new blog. This here Sports Page is associated with my football fansite, There is NO Offseason. I wanted to do something independent from that and the best thing was to host it myself.

This blog will stil be used but will be more as an extetention of TINO.

Here is a little intro for the new site, Football Jabber. Thanks for the ride and please come along!

Football Jabber is an irreverent (not to be confused with irrelevant…but could be at times) view of American Football. What’s going on, what makes us laugh, what ticks us off.

Football Jabber will cover things from the little af2 to the Wal-mart of sports that is the NFL and tons of Fantasy Football coverage year-round. Oh…Cheerleaders, I love Cheerleaders! We have our very own Dudley Do-Right from the Great White North so we may have some CFL thrown in the mix as well. I know it isn’t exactly American Football but, damn they try!

Speaking of trying…we don’t claim to be experts or take ourselves too seriously but we do spend just about as much time thinking football as Peyton Manning does in the film room.

I have previously been with the blogging world atTINO Sports Page(known cleverly as TINO). The break from that comes from the desire to be independent from my football fansite, There is NO Offseason.

We have some big plans for the NFL Draft and we are just getting started here to kick off 2008. Come along for the ride!

College Bowling on X-Mas

One year I had to spend X-Mas in Detroit at my sister in-laws.  I had not planned it out so it never happened but once I was there I realized I could have went to the Motor City Bowl.  This is one I wouldn’t have minded going to considering some of the match-ups that they have.

TINO Member Poll results: 87% in favor of Purdue.

Words from our resident gambling member, MCB:

Purdue should cover the 8 with little to no difficulty. Chippewas defense is awful. I watched a pathetic Akron team drop 30 something on them. Purdue should score 45+.

Site Pimp:Big Ten Fever

Something that we have been doing is a little site pimping Q&A with the sites affiliated with There is NO Offseason and TINO Sports Page. Big Ten Fever was the first to hook up with us earlier in the year. Yaya is the head chick over there. Plumber by day, sexually harassed and sexually harassing by night, she puts a lot of time in at her Big Ten themed site.

TINO: Tell me about Big Ten Fever, what makes you stand out?

Yaya: Well, we are a message board that focuses on all 11 teams of the Big Ten. We also have other forums where we talk about almost anything. I think what makes us stand out is we really have some great posters that are knowledgeable and are great contributors. It’s a very interactive site with not only forums, but we have a chatroom that stays very active, an arcade, and bookie. Oh yeah, and it’s run by me so it’s super awesome.

TINO: How do you summarize the Big Ten Football season up until now?

Yaya: Well the perception has been that this is a down year for the BT, but we also have 8 teams going to bowl games. Even though we’ve seen some big upsets, I don’t see this conference as being weak. A lot of the conferences have had upsets this year, I just think we are seeing parity rearing it’s ugly little face. And I think it’s good for the sport.

College Bowling on Sunday

The Hawaii Bowl goes up against an NFL Sunday.

TINO Member Poll results: 100% in favor of Boise State.

Words from our resident gambling member, MCB:

Boise should win this game going away, but I believe the oddsmakers are playing off the Boise St. mystique. ECU is a decent team that can keep the game close. Unless they self destruct with turnovers I believe they cover the 10.5.

College Bowling on Saturday

Looks like we could have a couple gutter balls today, but damn it…it’s football.

Here is how the There is NO Offseason members voted for the games today with some quotes from our gambling member, MCB.

PapaJohns.com Bowl: 71% in favor of Cincinnati

MCB-“Cincinnati destroys Southern Miss. This is the game that you bet your first born on. “

New Mexico Bowl: 71% in favor of New Mexico

MCB-“This is a tougher game to pick since New Mexico is at home, but I’ve seen Nevada play several times this season and the Wolfpack is a scoring machine. The Lobos struggled on offense much of the season. I’m taking Nevada to win the game straight up. Take the 3 points.”

Las Vegas Bowl: 57% in favor of UCLA

MCB-“UCLA has no offense and BYU will dominate.”

Missouri Mafia-“UCLA beat em once already this year…………but now they are beat up & the coach was fired. I dunno BYU might get ’em this time.”

MCB response-“BYU has won 9 straight and UCLA has lost 5 of last 7. Do you even think UCLA gives a crap about this game? BYU will dominate every facet of this game. Lay the 6 points.”
