Rankings| Fantasy RB Average Carries Compared to Carries Lost

Rankings| Fantasy RB Average Carries Compared to Carries Lost

June 13, 2008 by Lee (Edit)

The Full-Time Fantasy Running Back has become a bit of a rarity. More teams are going to a Running Back by Committee approach and carries are getting lost on third down and at the Goal Line as well. How does this effect your fantasy RB? Sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it is nerve racking. Carries don’t mean everything, right? But sometimes you just have to think that if your guy is touching the ball more there is more opportunity than if he is on the bench.

On the last two episodes of The Fantasy Football News and Advice Show there has been a little conversation on the stock of Jamal Lewis. Matt Dana at FFGeekBlog.com (Episode 4)had been noticing that Lewis is going earlier than most would think in Mock Drafts. Revisiting the topic this week (Episode 5) we came to the conclusion that it must be related to the fact that Jamal Lewis is part of the dying breed that is the Full-Time Fantasy Back. This could make a difference in projections for cheetsheets you may be putting together. Giving more thought to this I decided to take a look at all of the teams and see just who lost the most carries in 2007.

Let’s have a look at how the player on each team with the highest average of carries per game stacked up against the average carries per game for the team. This will give us the average carries that each player lost per game. I think you may be surprised by how some of these guys rank. On one side this shows which teams look more at the featured back. On another side it shows that having to share carries does not necessarily mean a drop in fantasy production (especially if the team runs the ball a majority of the time). Of course this doesn’t take into consideration a players value in the passing game. No, it’s not a science (Yes-there are holes in it), but it’s fun anyway. So what are your thoughts? Please share in the comments below!

We will rank these in order of teams where the player with the highest average carries per game lost the least amount of carries to others (carries are rounded up).

1. Chiefs
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Team: 23.93
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Leader: Larry Johnson
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game: 19.8
Avg. Carries lost to others/Game: 3.2
Comments: When Johnson is healthy he is forced the rock. I wouldn’t look for much of a change in this…if healthy. The addition of Jamal Charles in the NFL Draft provides little reason to think it will change.

NFC South 1st Half Report Card

We are a 1/2 way through the season and many teams have not performed
as planned. We have decided that report cards should be sent out. Some
fans will be happy to see how their teams stack up. Some would like to
use the genius plan I gave a kid walking home with me in the first
grade…hide it underneath a car tire where your Mom will never find it.
Grades are determined by where they rank in the league in each
category. Feel free to praise or scold teams in the comment section
below. Check out the other divisions as well.

Offense
Points Per Game:

First Half=C
First Quarter=C

Passing Yards:

First Half=C
First Quarter=D+

Rushing Yards:

First Half=C
First Quarter=B

Defense
Points Allowed:

First Half=A
First Quarter= A

Yards Per Game:

First Half=B+
First Quarter=B+

Comments: The Bucs have returned to their expected performance on defense. They hold on to a lead in their division but sick days are hurting in rushing class.

NFL Jabber 9/27/07

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/panthersgif.gif  Looks like David Carr is going to get to audition to be that “QB of the future” that everyone talked about when the Panthers signed him.  Downer for Carr is Jake D has been playing well.

“Honestly, I do feel better on this team,” Carr said. “I’m more relaxed. I’m not being pressed to do things I don’t need to be doing. I feel like I can go out with my mechanics and all that, and just throwing the football in general, I feel like that just comes naturally and I don’t have to think about it.

“That’s freeing as far as playing quarterback. Now, it’s just completing balls and throwing to the right guy.”

It wasn’t long ago when the bye week came with a sigh of relief for Saints fans.  No loss this week!  SunHerald.com give five reasons the Saints are winless.

https://i0.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/raidersgif.gif  Word is that Josh McCown is going to be out this week.  That was the word last week as well.  Daunte Culpepper waits for his first shot as a Raider…may or may not be this weekend.

“Last time we were told he wouldn’t be back for two or three weeks, and he was back in two days,” Coach Kiffin said. “So, I don’t know.”

NFL Bedpan/Week 3 Injuries of note

What sucks more on a Sunday than looking at your live scoring or results later in the day only to find that you started Andre Johnson thinking the Texans would be attempting a shootout with the Colts and he was in street clothes? Well, a lot of things suck more but you don’t have to have this kind of suckyness in your life.

Make a quick stop by on Sunday mornings and see who is using the bedpan for the weekend, who is hurt but likely to play, or just to let me know I’m not completely talking to myself here.

Also, if you have any questions or answers on who to start or sit, see our weekly “Who in the hell do I start?” series. If nothing else there will be another chick pic each week.

So enough babble, below you will find those that are out, on the bedrail so to speak, and those not likely to play for each of this Sunday’s games.

Monday AM Hangover/Week One

We are done with the first Sunday of the NFL season. There are already some unlikely wins and some overtime. Don’t you love when things don’t go as planned? That’s why the games are played they say. So now I give you some random thoughts on some games.

The Game Highlight links take you to the game page for each at the new NFL.com where you can view video highlights. Pretty cool on their part although other parts of the new site are still lacking.

Game Highlights
Who the hell are these Texans? I realize they were playing the Chiefs and not much is expected of them this season. Thing is, the Texans are not supposed to win. Matt Schaub had an average showing but enough to show that the Texans made the right move with the trade. One of many to come I suspect, a 77 yard TD from Schaub to Andre Johnson…niiiiice. The defense was impressive, even scoring a touchdown thanks to that Williams guy they drafted last year.

43 yards against the Texans. That’s Larry Johnson’s total on the ground. He did get another 44 in the air but Johnson is supposed to be able to run all over these guys. For now we can chalk it up to not coming to work all summer. The Texans don’t appear as bad as usual but it has to hurt when Houston takes a knee on you to end the game…easily.
