Just in time for the 2008 Football season Football Jabber has added The Locker Room Community. Think MySpace for the football fan! From the NFL Draft all the way to the Super Bowl…
The Full-Time Fantasy Running Back has become a bit of a rarity. More teams are going to a Running Back by Committee approach and carries are getting lost on third down and at the Goal Line as well. How does this effect your fantasy RB? Sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it is nerve racking. Carries don’t mean everything, right? But sometimes you just have to think that if your guy is touching the ball more there is more opportunity than if he is on the bench.
On the last two episodes of The Fantasy Football News and Advice Show there has been a little conversation on the stock of Jamal Lewis. Matt Dana at FFGeekBlog.com (Episode 4)had been noticing that Lewis is going earlier than most would think in Mock Drafts. Revisiting the topic this week (Episode 5) we came to the conclusion that it must be related to the fact that Jamal Lewis is part of the dying breed that is the Full-Time Fantasy Back. This could make a difference in projections for cheetsheets you may be putting together. Giving more thought to this I decided to take a look at all of the teams and see just who lost the most carries in 2007.
Let’s have a look at how the player on each team with the highest average of carries per game stacked up against the average carries per game for the team. This will give us the average carries that each player lost per game. I think you may be surprised by how some of these guys rank. On one side this shows which teams look more at the featured back. On another side it shows that having to share carries does not necessarily mean a drop in fantasy production (especially if the team runs the ball a majority of the time). Of course this doesn’t take into consideration a players value in the passing game. No, it’s not a science (Yes-there are holes in it), but it’s fun anyway. So what are your thoughts? Please share in the comments below!
We will rank these in order of teams where the player with the highest average carries per game lost the least amount of carries to others (carries are rounded up).
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Team: 23.93
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Leader: Larry Johnson
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game: 19.8
Avg. Carries lost to others/Game: 3.2
Comments: When Johnson is healthy he is forced the rock. I wouldn’t look for much of a change in this…if healthy. The addition of Jamal Charles in the NFL Draft provides little reason to think it will change.
It wasn’t fair to put the hope of the non-Patriot fan world on the shoulders of the Steelers…but we had to. Who else is going to do it?
The New York Jets? They did shock everyone with a win over the Steelers. No way they are the one to take down the Pats though.
The Miami Dolphins? How cool would that be? A winless (just assuming they lose next week) Fins team comes into Foxboro and knocks off the undefeated team threatening to take their record away. That would be cool as hell. It’s not likely they will beat any team this year but why not pull for this one to happen? Remember when the Fins gave the 85′ Bears their only loss? Ironically it was the Patriots that went on to their first Super Bowl that year. Go Dolphins, it’s up to you to keep what is yours!
Just like everyone overeats on Thanksgiving we had a little excess as well. We went five game last week, you would think that would have helped Kelly gain some ground. Games like this are always more fun when your winning. So the kid trails by four with 15 games left for the regular season. I’m going to throw him a couple bones this week I think.

Last time these two teams played I took the Jags. In the preseason I picked them to split with the Colts. David Garrard is yet to throw an INT but also has not played the whole season. His first (and maybe more) could very well come this week. MJD and Fred Taylor will be the focus of the game plan on both sides of the ball when the Jags have the rock. Look for it to be the Joe Addai show on offense for the Colts, this guy is not missing a beat. We are getting to the time in the season when the Colts need to make a statement and there wouldn’t be a better time than against the division rival that trails them by a game. With that said, I have to stick to my split.
The Jaguars have Garrard back and are looking good, but I just can’t go against Peyton at home. With the piped in sound on defense and him confusing the heck out of the other team on offense, they are one of the toughest teams to play at home. I like how their offense has still been clicking even without Marvin and I think their D is one of the most underrated in the league. Overall, I think people don’t respect Indy like they should so I’m going to toss them some props.

Yes, I have broke the 20 win mark for the season. If I could hear Kellogg23’s voice through the words he types I’m sure it would be quivering a bit. There is a bit of separation going on here. This week we are doing all of the Thanksgiving Day games and then throwing in a couple for Sunday as well. Maybe with five games going the kid can get back in the hunt here!
Yesterday I posted a preview for Thanksgiving Day with some history and all that cool stuff. CLICK HERE if you want to check that out.

Who would have thought that this game would have so much meaning when the schedule came out this year? The Packers have a pretty good grasp on the division right now at 9-1. The Lions are in Wild Card mode and need every win they can get. I always pull for the Lions on Thanksgiving. This season though I’m pulling for Favre as it MAY be his last…or not. I would also like to see both teams 10-1 when the Pack face the Cowboys next week.
This one is a toughie. Green Bay has been hot as of late, but Detroit hasn’t been too shabby either. If this game was in Green Bay, well then it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving would it? Instead of picking this game, I think we should try to figure out the over/under on how many Barry Sanders on Thanksgiving highlights they show during the game. I’ll put it at 3 and take the over. I’m going with the Lions only because they are at Ford Field and I think they will come to play.

Thanksgiving and football. Up until just a few years ago family and friends got together for the annual Bloated Bowl. After pounding as much bird flesh, mashed potatoes and gravy and beer into us as possible we would take the block long walk to the park. Spectacular pigskin play ensued. My wife earned the nickname “The Wall” a few years ago after my sissy of a cousin ran into her as she stood still and then he lay on the ground crying holding his knee.
Now the bloated bowl seems to be retired. The kids got older and faster and we got older and slower. People moved away, blah, blah, blah. I miss it but after a flag football game where the adults took on the kids at the alternative school I work at last week, I realize I really am getting too old for this shit. Don’t get me wrong, we kicked their ass. I had the play of the day still getting talked about this week, going up for the ball and getting flattened by a kid that has about 40 lbs on me. I jumped up off the ground and spiked the ball in his face. I masked how hurt I was and my stuff down below got pinched and didn’t get better until a few plays later. Worse part about it was that I got jacked up by a kid in orange Rex Grossman jersey.
But I digress…Thanksgiving and football. Now it consists of the same prep. Lots of food and beer. Now there is more laying around watching the games on TV and checking my fantasy scores. I have a huge fantasy game this weekend against a IDP Division rival. Winner will likely take the division with one week to play after that before the playoffs.
So let’s talk about some games! One game we will not talk about outside this paragraph is the Colts and Falcons. There are a few reasons for this. One, the NFL Network is robbing me of viewing this game and I hate the bastards for it! 2, it’s the friggen Colts and Falcons, does that really count as a game? Why do I bitch than you ask? I bitch because eventually the NFL is gong to get the guessing game right when making the schedule and they will rob those with out the NFLN of what they hope is the game of the year. I’m just going to guess here but I’m thinking they thought this was going to be Manning vs. Vick, not Manning versus Joeyron Harringtonwich. How long before they tamper with tradition and take away the Lions or Cowboys game? A big middle finger to you NFL, I’m watching NCAA football Thursday Night!
Let’s move on to what should be practice games for the Cowboys and Packers who will meet week 13 (by the way if you don’t have NFL Network, your screwed on that one), some Thanksgiving history, and some college football. And you know I have to throw a cheerleader in, I can’t leave you hanging with the bird above.
