Tim Tebow is the (Heis)Man this year(Video)

Forget about the “Sophomore can’t win the Heisman” thing. Tim Tebow has done it. You do have to admit that the stats are to be reckoned with…

Evidently, if a quarterback has a 20-20 season — 20 touchdown passes and 20 touchdown rushes — it’s OK if he’s only 20 years old. Tebow completed 217 of 317 passes for 3,132 yards and 29 touchdowns (and only six interceptions), and rushed for 838 yards and 22 scores.

Tebow goes on to join Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerful as QB’s who played for Florida and won the Heisman. In a year or two it’s going to be up to Tebow to break the “Florida QB’s suck in the NFL” thing as well.

The TINO votes went 60% to Arkansas RB Darren McFadden, 40% Hawaii QB Colt Brennan, and zero to Tebow. No blow on Tebow himself…I think people just hate Florida.

You ever have to deal with one of those people that will just NOT shut up about whoever they are a fan of? At the alternative school I work at there is this kid that I think can only speak enough words to count on one hand and every sentence starts with Tim Tebow or Steelers. I’m going to hear about this on Monday. GOD forbid the Steelers beat the Patriots (actually, I hope so) or I think the kids head will explode. Just having fun, he is one of the better kids there, at least I can talk some football with him even if it revolves around those two subjects.

Here is a Tebow highlight reel…

NFL Coach Approval Ratings

I just recently stumbled across this. ESPN Sports Nation is tracking Approval Ratings for NFL coaches via polls by us….the online public. I thought I would revisit this after reading that Scott Linehan’s position will be re-evaluated after the season. This is the time of year that fans start calling for the head of their coach, right?

Pretty interesting if your the kind that likes to follow trends (as I am) and vote in these types of things. You can have a look at week five HERE. Mike Tomlin tops the list this week for good reason. 90% Approval rating.

Some of the bottom feeders? Sean Payton 20%, Mike Shanahan 20%, Cam Cameron 18%, Scott Linehan 17% (somehow up from 9% the last two weeks), Herm Edwards 17%, Brad Childress 16%.

They give a brief summary of last weeks performance. Clicking on the link for each coach will give you the chance to vote and gives you a chart from the last two seasons.

So go ahead and take your online venom out on these guys…or praise them.

Perfect Timing for College Football Live!

So I got a chance to catch the new College Football Live on ESPN last night. For those not in the know, this is ESPN’s College Football answer to NFL Live, new for 2007.

On the College Football page of ESPN you can submit video and email questions. The show airs on ESPN, Mon.-Fri., 3:30 ET.

I call it perfect timing for a few reasons. First of all, I love the women pictured above. What says college football better than a couple hot Co-ed hardbodies ripping their schools shirt to bare cleavage? NOTHING!

Other than being a good excuse to post the above picture, it’s perfect timing because if others are along with me, people are getting sick of the talk in the NFL right now. NFL Live has become the Court TV of Sports. I

It’s perfect timing because it is late July and people are really getting pumped for the football season and will devour anything put in front of them. This is good because actually watching the show it can take a little bit for them to work out some kinks.

The Trey Wingo of the show, Rece Davis, is a bit long winded when trying to get to a punchline. The guys really appear to have an “Ok, we are here, now what?” thing going on. They have not learned to take turns when talking yet and can be a little hard to follow. At one point at the end of the show I swear three of the four were talking at the same time.

Topics now include Playoffs vs. BCS, of course. Heisman candidates. Who can be this year’s Boise State…

The show will really write itself once the season gets going. With all the schools they can pull a story from they shouldn’t have any trouble with material. One trap I can see them falling into is only giving considerable airtime discussion to a handful of schools. The viewer will get tired of that.

If done correctly this show can be a great tool for drawing the average football fan into the college game. One complaint of Joe Footballfan is that there are just too many teams to follow or there are only a few really good teams. If they can help enlighten the casual fan with a good balance of parity and ripped shirts showing cleavage (ok, that one is for me) this show can score big for College football on free TV.

Aaron Brooks Top Story!

Well, not really. I’m so convinced that Aaron Brooks is not headline worthy right now that I found it odd that I seen his name in headlines TWICE in one day.

Michael David Smith of The Fanhouse discussed the possibility of Aaron Brooks taking his cousin Michael’s place in Atlanta.

Brooks, of course, is Vick’s cousin. Things could get interesting at the next family reunion if one of Vick’s cousins might be the key witness against him, and another might be his replacement.

Then I see that KFFL is reporting that Brooks is meeting with the Steelers.

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have visited with free-agent QB Aaron Brooks (Raiders).

So now that the flood gates have opened can we expect Aaron Brooks to Jax, KC, Oakland…(oh yeah, we tried that).

Some ESPY Thoughts

I just watched the replay of the ESPY’s and thought I would jot down some thoughts.

  • Amanda Beard has a big shiny forehead just like Peyton Manning. Did they airbrush that out of the Playboy pictures?
  • Speaking of Peyton Manning…that guy is so damn polite and proper. I would welcome a headline of him getting pulled over doing 45 in a 25, drunk but not enough to blow over, texting some cuss words at his mom with a stripper having Tom Brady’s baby on his lap.
  • When they do the tribute to the people that died in the last year…clap for all or none. It just seemed awkward when the crowd would clap praise for one dead person but you could hear crickets as they show pictures of Darrent Williams and Marquise Hill.
  • I’m not a big basketball guy and I don’t know that I have ever heard LeBron James talk but the guy is actually funny. Can’t act, but he can laugh at himself…getting a big forehead nod of approval from Peyton Manning after doing a musical spoof of Bobby Brown’s “My prerogative.”
  • Boise State Football, LT and the Colts cleaned up just going to show that football is the greatest sport on earth…or at least with the people voting on ESPN’s website.
  • You ever see that Episode of King of Queens when they get an oil painting they just look horrible in? Carrie has this one big man arm? That is all I could think of when U of Arizona pitcher Taryne Mowatt was accepting her award. That girl has some guns on her!

NFL Jabber 7/10/07

It cracks me up when a site tells you they are “Your number one source for…” While they are telling you that, someone else is just giving you the material. Apparently, ESPN’s Hasmarks Blog is your number one source for the supplemental draft.

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/coltsgif.gif Tony Dungy is heading out on a book tour. Interesting is that it’s being pimped on the front page of two Buc sites, HERE and HERE. Getting bored with Gruden?

Two more football players are getting work visas. Seppo Evwaraye, a native of Finland, will get a token signing with the Vikings and Mexican defensive tackle Mauricio Lopez signed with the Eagles.

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/texansgif.gif The Texans have signed Bethel Johnson. His fourth team in 13 months. He is like the new version of Keenan McCardell, only without the stats.

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/lionsgif.gif Barry Sanders is up in the USA Today top 25 in the last 25 years. He comes in at number 10. Just like with the record you have to ask what number he would be at had he not quit the game. He could have easily broke Payton’s record and then went on to smudge his legacy with a stint on the Cardinals.

https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/broncosgif.gif Brandon Stokley is ready to do something for the Broncos that he had not done for the Colts in a while…play.

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/titansgif.gif This is actually a couple days old but an interesting take from Michael David Smith at The Fanhouse. Jeff Fisher is going to be a Free Agent Coach in 2008.

New MFL crew has lots of Mike…and Bonnie

ESPN is adding a second team to their Monday Night Football squad. Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of the Mike and Mike in the Morning radio show will headline. They will be joined by Mike Ditka in the booth and Bonnie Bernstein on the sidelines.

The team will take the field for the late game of a double header on Sept. 10 when the Arizona Cardinals face the San Francisco 49ers.

Mike and Mike have worked their way up from the radio show they have been broadcasting for seven years now. They pull off airing the show on TV each morning on ESPN2. That says something of the guys in itself. If your not Howard Stern it can be tough to get people to watch you do a radio show.

They have been broadcasting Arena Football League games this season to good reviews and will be doing the Arena Bowl in July.

I like the addition of Mike Ditka. Not that he comes across as the brightest football mind but because he is going to say something stupid, maybe rude, and not care. I enjoy listening to Ditka more than I would Ron Jaworski.

As far as Bonnie…well, just look. She is easy on the eyes. It’s mandatory to have a woman on the sidelines these days so she may as well look good, right? I would much rather look at Bonnie than Suzy Kolber.
