Just in time for the 2008 Football season Football Jabber has added The Locker Room Community. Think MySpace for the football fan! From the NFL Draft all the way to the Super Bowl…
The Full-Time Fantasy Running Back has become a bit of a rarity. More teams are going to a Running Back by Committee approach and carries are getting lost on third down and at the Goal Line as well. How does this effect your fantasy RB? Sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes it is nerve racking. Carries don’t mean everything, right? But sometimes you just have to think that if your guy is touching the ball more there is more opportunity than if he is on the bench.
On the last two episodes of The Fantasy Football News and Advice Show there has been a little conversation on the stock of Jamal Lewis. Matt Dana at FFGeekBlog.com (Episode 4)had been noticing that Lewis is going earlier than most would think in Mock Drafts. Revisiting the topic this week (Episode 5) we came to the conclusion that it must be related to the fact that Jamal Lewis is part of the dying breed that is the Full-Time Fantasy Back. This could make a difference in projections for cheetsheets you may be putting together. Giving more thought to this I decided to take a look at all of the teams and see just who lost the most carries in 2007.
Let’s have a look at how the player on each team with the highest average of carries per game stacked up against the average carries per game for the team. This will give us the average carries that each player lost per game. I think you may be surprised by how some of these guys rank. On one side this shows which teams look more at the featured back. On another side it shows that having to share carries does not necessarily mean a drop in fantasy production (especially if the team runs the ball a majority of the time). Of course this doesn’t take into consideration a players value in the passing game. No, it’s not a science (Yes-there are holes in it), but it’s fun anyway. So what are your thoughts? Please share in the comments below!
We will rank these in order of teams where the player with the highest average carries per game lost the least amount of carries to others (carries are rounded up).
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Team: 23.93
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game Leader: Larry Johnson
Avg. Rush Attempts/Game: 19.8
Avg. Carries lost to others/Game: 3.2
Comments: When Johnson is healthy he is forced the rock. I wouldn’t look for much of a change in this…if healthy. The addition of Jamal Charles in the NFL Draft provides little reason to think it will change.
The Falcons are offering the Big Tuna a front office job. This is interesting. Could cause some friction with President Rich McKay considering when he was with the Bucs he told them he would resign if Parcells was brought in back in 1996.
The fans inKC are crying because that big meany Coach Edwards told them to “get over” the Chiefs record this season.
“People aren’t used to this in Kansas City. Get over it,” Edwards said then. “It happens. It’s called life. You can’t think you’re too big that it’s not going to happen to you. It happens to everybody.”
They just want you to play to win the game Herm…play to win the game.
Kathleen Nelson at STLToday.com asks this question…”Are the Steelers Coming Apart?” Nice try Kathy, the Rams are going to get slaughtered.
The Dolphins can clinch the #1 pick today with a loss. Think they can do it?
Is Edge James Hall of Fame worthy? A little premature of a question but they are asking it in the papers in AZ. His career has been a little quiet since moving to the dessert but he is 13th on the rushing list. They debate it here…
Mike Maylock of the NFL Network said he wouldn’t draft Vince Young coming out of college because you would have to change your offense to fit him. Jeff Fisher and Norm Chow have been doing a decent job with compromise in their marriage to Young.
“I don’t know if there is another coach who would be able to bring him along like they have to this point, to be able to put their egos at the door, adjust to his strengths and not ask him to do more than he is able to do,” said ESPN’s Merril Hoge, who has been one of Young’s harshest critics. “I can’t think of a place where Vince would be better off. It just takes time.”
Speaking of Norm Chow…he met with the UCLA Bruins about taking the Head Coaching gig in KC last night.
We are a 1/2 way through the season and many teams have not performed as planned. We have decided that reports cards should be sent out. Some fans will be happy to see how their teams stack up. Some would like to use the genius plan I gave a kid walking home with me in the first grade…hide it underneath a car tire where your Mom will never find it. Grades are determined by where they rank in the league in each category. Feel free to praise or scold teams in the comment section below. Check out the other divisions as well.
Points Per Game:
Yards Per Game:
Comments: The Chargers have improved slightly in all of their classes. The biggest improvement, which helps get the W’s, is in points per game. They need to continue to stay on task if there is going to be any chance of a post season.
The rest of the teams…
Last week it came down to the Steelers and Ravens for us. The Steelers tearing up the Ravens also put me a game ahead of Kelloggs for the total on the season. This week can either have me taking a bigger lead or even falling behind a game as we differ in opinion on some of the winners this week. All rivalry games this week, gotta love it!
So let’s review a little bit and then get into this weeks games…
TINO: 3-0 (16-11 overall)
Kelloggs23: 2-1 (15-12 overall)
A trap game for me? Green Bay and Brett Favre are playing lights out. They are also doing something that is very important, which some teams don’t do. They are playing the WHOLE game. If only they had that running game they would be very dangerous. The Vikings had history on their side last week with Adrian Peterson in a monster showing with LT having to watch the kid on the block tear up the field from the sideline. The Vikings are not going to pretend they are doing anything but running the ball all day. The Packers will not try to pretend that they can run the ball. The Packers are due for a loss and it can always go either way in these rivalry games but I’m going with Favre and the Packers D.
Last time these two played, I was a big homer and figured the Vikings had a shot at the Super Bowl. This time I am much more grounded. Or is it the ground game that I am thinking of? ADRIAN PETERSON welcome to the frozen tundra where you will dominate the next few years. The Vikings D knows that Favre & the Pack Attack will have to pass and will be much better prepared this time around. AP will run wild and Brooks will have a homecoming (Wisconsin alum) that will be labeled “unspectacular, but efficient”. This will lead the Vikings to victory and a possible birth in that p-word that they have at the end of every season.
Kelloggs23: Minnesota Vikings
Rumor, yes. But what a hit it would be to the Chiefs. Right now they sit at the top of the AFC West (even though they are at .500 but it counts). Arrowheadaddict.com has posted links to reports for and against it.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is out for the season.
This was confirmed by a source within the Chiefs organization with direct knowledge of the situation.
Myfoxkc.com is waiting on word from the Chiefs:
The Chiefs completely deny this story, saying their medical staff hasn’t told them anything about a broken bone in the foot.
It’s not uncommon for the news in a rival city to jump on something like this first. It’s a wait and see from here. Priest Holmes will be jumping off waiver wires if he hasn’t already in your fantasy leagues. Hermy says it will be a committee approach for this weekend though.
