A Community just for Football Fans…

Just in time for the 2008 Football season Football Jabber has added The Locker Room Community.  Think MySpace for the football fan!  From the NFL Draft all the way to the Super Bowl…

Dynasty Rankings, Draft Stratigies, and Power Rankings

What’s up kids?  I still see there are some hangers on over here so I thought I would post what we have going at the Jabber.

The Dynasty Rankings have been posted including Individual Defensive Players (IDP).

A big experiment facing off the Stud RB fantasy football draft theory vs. Triplets.  I actually got paid at work while doing 24 mock drafts for this…hehehe

Mike Martz is sweet on his RB’s

…and yes…the Early Pre-Season NFL Power Rankings are up.

Swing by and say hey!

A Sigh Heard Around the Fantasy World

Nobody really thought that Larry Johnson would sit out the 2007 football season. But you know that there were a lot of fantasy owners that took Johnson that were likely checking on the status of this holdout several times a day. Johnson fell to number four in many drafts (#6 in one draft I was in) and those owners have to be doing cartwheels today as Johnson’s holdout has ended.

The Kansas City Star said Johnson was at practice Tuesday afternoon, after agreeing to a five-year contract extension that will take him through the 2012 season. The paper said the new deal will pay the 2003 first-round pick $45 million over the next six years.

There was also a sigh of “Bummer” from all the guys that drafted Priest Holmes thinking they were getting the steal of the draft.

https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/patsgif.gif With the Patriots WR corps so stacked, it’s crazy to think that Donte Stallworth could be cut. There are only so many spots to be filled and the bottom line is that those that produce in the preseason will be the ones that stay. Although Stallworth will get some slack for being injured, every game and snap counts in this race. Two tom Brady INT’s thrown in Friday’s game against the Titans were meant for Stallworth.

“I slipped on the first one and the second one Tom threw the ball where I was supposed to be and I wasn’t exactly where I was supposed to be,” Stallworth said. “There are no excuses. It’s just something where I have to learn the way Tom plays and understand the way this offense is supposed to be run.

“I’ve been practicing for a week now. It was good to get some of the rust off, but at the same time, as the days go on you want to start making fewer and fewer mistakes. And hopefully by the time you need to get things rolling, it’s rolling pretty well.”

https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/finsgif.gif A worry in Miami has been what is going to become of the D once some of it’s aging members are put out to pasture soon. So far the starting Fins D held Jacksonville and KC scoreless in about two quarters…gaining three sacks. Why is this news?

From the Miami Herald

And all this without a complete game plan, without using any of the fanciful blitzes defensive coordinator Dom Capers has at his disposal, and most notably, without Taylor, Zach Thomas, Keith Traylor, André Goodman or Joey Porter playing one snap.

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/vikingsgif.gif The Vikings D isn’t looking too shabby either. In a preseason game that actually looks like a football score, the Vikings D scored three TD’s in a 37-20 win over the Jets.

“They are pressuring good, and I think along with that they are disguising well and holding things until the very last second,” coach Brad Childress said of the defense. “I know on [Greenway’s touchdown] they did a great job of showing a Cover-2 look and kind of rolling out of it. I think it confused Pennington.”

https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/eaglesgif.gif Donovan McNabb has started his comeback against the Panthers last night. McNabb went 6 for 9 gaining 138 yards in the air. Some think he has lost a step but that would still make him a few steps ahead of most NFL QB’s.

“I have a long way to go, but the exciting part is just what we can do,” McNabb said.

The image “https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/falconsgif.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. Arthur Blank is not happy about being lied to. It’s looking more and more like no matter how Michael Vick’s situation comes out that Vick will not be a Falcon in the end.

“What’s suggested in those statements of fact don’t match up with what the league was told, even our organization, and certainly not what was said to the commissioner,” Blank said.

https://i0.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/raidersgif.gif Apparently Al Davis recognizes the fact that it’s quite an accomplishment to stay alive behind the Raiders O-Line.

“That poor Andrew Walter last year got hit so many times, I don’t think he knew where they were coming from,” Davis said.

Is there a QB Competition to care about in 07′?

One the biggest, easiest, news stories each season is the QB controversy. Who will lead the team to glory? 2007 seems to have the media stuck in a form of routine as the QB still catches the headlines. Of course, each team has it’s fan base that is interested but it is a pretty slow year for the QB battles which makes me ask, is there one to really care about?

One of the biggest QB headline grabbers this offseason that did not involve dogs being killed was Trent Green to Miami, Culpepper to be out the door. What’s going on with this? Possibly making a story where there isn’t one, the media is wondering if Cleo Lemon may be the man in Miami. Huh? The Dolphins have the best chance to do anything this season out of the teams with a QB question but this is a reach if they want to do anything.

As they wait for JaMarcus Russell in Oakland, Daunte Culpepper has landed in a vicious battle with…Andrew Walter and Josh McCown. Culpepper is single handedly making this a competition by fumbling on 2 or his first three plays last weekend. Russell is going to roll off the couch one day and be starting for this team.

Who will play the first few games for Cleveland before Brady Quinn is given the ball prematurely? Derek Anderson is the talk of the day.

Is it Brody Croyle or Damon Huard in Kansas City? Doesn’t matter the real headstone of the offense is holding out.

The Vikings made their mind up that Tavaris Jackson was their guy this season by lack of moves in the offseason but there are some that are not content with that and want you to believe that Brooks Bollinger is the guy to get them the NFC Crown. What?

Tampa Bay had the best chance for a story early on the offseason for the also rans. Now they have to pray that nothing happens to Jeff Garcia as Chris Simms may not make the team and Jake Plummer is out living a life that most of us wish we could at his age.

The media reeeeeeaaaaaly wants there to be more of a story in Philly with Kevin Kolb being drafted.

Then there are teams you wonder why there isn’t more news. Teams that actually have a chance to compete this season.

Why the hell is Rex Grossman getting a pardon?

David Carr could vary well be the QB of the future in Carolina but they seem to be still kissing Jake D’s ass.

Joey Harrington becomes the default QB in Atlanta. This one could have made for a good story had Georgia boy D.J. Shockley been given a chance.

Jacksonville does not seem to have much of a plan past the 2007 season at QB. A battle for the number two that could be the heir apparent to Byron Leftwich and be looming on the sidelines ready to swoop in and take the job now would be fun. Forgot Tim Couch is there now…

A similar battle for #2 would be fun in Green Bay.  Aaron Rodgers appears to be playing well so there goes that for now.

Eli Manning is always in the news with the threat that this is the season he better do something or else. Or else what? Anthony Wright is going to come in?

Hopefully for the sake of fun some of these latter battles in the making will come about this season. The upside is we are less than a month away from kickoff.

Let’s look at some Preseason games!

Looking at these scores it looks like an exciting weekend for NFL football…then we remember it’s August.

Bears down the Texans 20-19

Cedric Benson is officially “The Man” in Chicago. He gained 23 yards on five carries in the Bear’s preseason victory over the Texans.

”It feels good,” Benson said. ”It’s good for me because I wanted to get a feel for what I needed to work on, or if I was running high or if I needed to get lower. I thought today was pretty good, but it won’t stop there. We are going to work on improving some things and try and get those first downs and big plays to put points on the board.”

This is as good a time as any to use TINO’s resident Bears fan Gregster’s pic of Benson from Bears camp.

Ced Benson

My little hometown’s hero, Sage Rosenfells did what he does best, come in off the bench and throw TD’s. He hit Jeb Putzier for the one Texans touchdown.

“When you have someone come off the bench and pick up the slack the way Sage did, that’s what you’re looking for,” said running back Ahman Green, who started and played the first quarter. “Whether it’s quarterback, running back, wide receiver or the guys on the offensive line, when the next guy comes in, there’s no dropoff.”

Raiders top Cards 27-23

The old Daunte Culpepper is back! No, not the good one. Culpepper fumbled on two of his first three plays. Meanwhile, Josh McCown and Andrew Walter throw TD’s.

The image “https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/cowboysgif.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. The Cowboys topped the Colts in Wade Phillips first game on the sidelines for The Boys.

“I thought it was a pretty good first outing,” Phillips said. “It’s not a regular-season game, but it’s nice to come in and play well at home, which you need to establish, and not turn the ball over and not let them run the ball. So I think we did some things well. Hard work can pay off. Winning whatever kind of game is important.”

The image “https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/lionsgif.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. Calvin Johnson got on the field for the first time and made a couple good catches for 45 yards.

Sean Payton is keeping a close eye on the D-tackle position tonight. Kendrick Clancy is getting the nod to start over Hollis Thomas.

“It’s a combination of (Clancy) playing pretty well and Hollis needing to get his weight down,” Payton said. “When it’s hot like it is now, (Hollis) is not real productive and he understands that.”

https://i1.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/titansgif.gif To little too late. After passing on him in the draft when he was with the Texans, Charlie Casserly is impressed with Vince Young.

“I talked to Vince at lunchtime,” Casserly said. “I think he had a terrific rookie year, I think he came a long way as a passing quarterback. He was asked to do a lot more things here than he was at Texas and he responded favorably and that’s a credit to him, a credit to Norm Chow.

“In year two they’ll ask him to do more in the offense and he’ll do more. He’ll improve in the mastering of the offense and the management of the game, all those things that a second year quarterback will do. I look for him to just keep improving.”

https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/packersgif.gif All the running back talk in Green Bay has been around Vernand Morency and Brandon Jackson. Hanging out in the background, ready to pounce on the position if given the chance is Noah Herron.

The image “https://i2.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/ninersgif.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. Mike Singletary hopes to be a head coach in the NFL some day. He got some practice while Mike Nolan was at Bill Walsh’s services. Singletary ran the show at camp while Nolan was gone.

“I knew when I came back into the league I wanted to be a head coach,” Singletary said. “Mike knew I wanted to be a head coach. This is something that he and I talk about, but it’s not something I focus on. The most important thing for me is to make sure I’m the best assistant head coach/defense I can be.”

The image “https://i0.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/raidersgif.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. JaMarcus Russell has inked a deal on a house in Oakland.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have decided that Josh McCown will take the first snaps in Saturday nights preseason game against his former team.

“I don’t want to put any pressure on myself, but I want to do well for myself, want to do well for Lane and do well for this team,” McCown said. “I want to do it for everybody. But absolutely, I know how it is to go out for the first time. It’s your first shot at what you want to do. Obviously this is the peak of what a coach wants to do and this will be his first start.

“You just hope that everybody is going hard and working hard as they can for you. I know he knows he’ll get it from me, but I am going to do everything I can to make this work for him.”

https://i0.wp.com/www.tino-offseason.com/forum/myth/Billsgif.gif The Bills are putting their new O-Line out for the test tonight against the Saints.

“It’s the preseason, but it’s still a chance to go out and show what you’ve got,” said guard Duke Preston. “We have an O-line with some new guys in here, so it will be a good chance for us to get out and see how we stack up against some other teams.”
