Shaping the BCS Title Game

The BCS title game is shaping up. There are actually quite a few left in the hunt going into this weekend. They say every week of the College Football season is a playoff, let’s see how this weekends playoff games look…

#1 11-1 vs. #9 10-2

This is where conference title games can go wrong. Right now Missouri sit perched at the top spot for the first time in 38 years but the Big 12 title game against Oklahoma looms for this weekend. OU won the first matchup earlier this season 41-31. Some say their experience is going to give them the win here and in fact the Sooners are favored by 3 points. Win and in Tigers…win and in! A win for OU can get them in the title game with some help.

#2 10-1 vs. 4-7

For West Virginia it’s “Win and in.” Standing in their way is a Pitt team that owns a 59-37-3 record in the series, although most of them are way back as WV has a 15-10-2 record since 1980 in the rivalry. Putting all that aside, WV is a 26.5 point favorite this weekend.

#3 11-1 vs. Big Ten that doesn’t have a title game that could push them forward.

While the other one loss teams are playing in their “playoff games” this weekend, OSU gets to sit on their Buckeyes and wait to see how it unfolds. See how another win in a conference Championship could help right now Big Ten? Could be a double edged sword here. If the Big Ten had a title game it could be enough to push Ohio State up in the polls. On the other hand, they may have to do nothing and slip into the National Championship.

Now some long shots…

#4 10-2 vs. Nobody because Kentucky couldn’t close the deal on Tennessee.

Poor Georgia. It had to be tough watching that OT between Kentucky and Tennessee. This appears to be as high as they are going to go. Had Kentucky pulled that game out and Georgia could have won the SEC title game they may have been in the big dance with some help.

# 7 10-2 vs. #14 9-3

As mentioned with Georgia above, a victory here and some help from WV and Missouri losing could push them up to the National Title game against Ohio State. All in the BCS family would be happy as they would get their poster boy of a big draw game that they hoped for. I wouldn’t put it past the BCS to somehow put LSU in if they won even if both WV and Missouri won.

#12 11-0 vs. 4-8

Sorry Hawaii. It’s cute how you go out there and put up all those points and wins but it’s really a futile effort as there is nothing you can do to ever be taken seriously. Nobody wants to make the trip out to play you. You insist on keeping your home stadium on an island away from the real states of The Union. But, here’s to you Mr. I won all my games and can’t break the friggen top 10…about that “Whole season is a playoff” thing…you don’t count.

How wrong would it be if the BCS slips LSU back into the National Championship if they win this weekend? It will be an outrage!

The way the BCS is formulated you have to be perfect and LSU has proved that they are not. Granted the only team left undefeated is Hawaii but the WAC is well, wack.

You’ll find me rooting for the Sooners this weekend to get the Buckeyes back to the title game for the third time in six years.

You know what cracked me up? In Miles’ presser he talked about how they are the best 60 minute team because the games they lost were in OT. LMAO…those are still in the L column!

  3. Anthony Says:

Are you serious? If they were the best 60-minute team, LSU wouldn’t have to play in overtime. That has to be the one of the stupidest comments to come out of a head coach’s mouth ever.
